10 Arizona Beer Week Collaborations You Need To Try
February 5, 2019

Guest Post by Tap That AZ Podcast and Mixed Mercury

Arizona Beer Week is a celebration of all things craft beer within our state. Many breweries, bottle shops, and taprooms take it one step further and come together to create some magic liquid in February.

Here are 10 beer collaborations you should not miss out on during Arizona Beer Week.

  1. Curaga – Blueberry Cobbler Ale – 8-Bit Aleworks + Blue Pint Society

When mad scientist/brewer Ryan Whitten is in the brew lab, you cannot help but forward to whatever concoction comes forth and this creation looks to be a doozy. He has teamed up with the awesome guys over at Blue Pint Society to reinvent his Health Potion into the next level of tasty. Expect blueberry and pie crust tasting notes from this brew. As a bonus, one dollar from every pint sold off-premise during Arizona Beer Week will go towards The Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation.

  2. Barrel-Aged Flannel Buddies 4 Lyfe – Imperial Stout – Goldwater Brewing Co. + Dark Sky Brewing Co.

A fan favorite beer from last year makes its return, but this time around, it has some barrel kick to it! This bad boy is a blend of two different whiskey barrels with plenty of maple syrup, cinnamon roasted pecans, and cocoa nibs thrown in. Look out for this at Goldwater’s can release on February 8th.

  3. Cinnamon Toast Crunch variant of Koffee Kolsch – Huss Brewing + Kings Beer & Wine

The description of this beer pretty much speaks for itself. Mickey Salem, the owner of Kings Beer & Wine in Central Phoenix, said he was inspired when he ran out of milk one day and ended up pouring a can of Koffee Kolsch over his bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. The beer world salutes you for your pioneering ways, Mickey! Be sure and grab a pint at King’s during Beer Week.

  4. Tmave Pivo – Dark Lager – Pueblo Vida Brewing Company + Pedal Haus Brewing

This collab has some European history as the number one selling beer in most Czech pubs. Look forward to this classic Czech-style lager that will feel a lot lighter than its dark color would indicate. Pedal Haus and Pueblo Vida always put out solid beers, so expect nothing less from this team up.

  5. Quad-Rye – Wanderlust Brewing Company + O.H.S.O.

Caramel, dark cherries and all the spice make for this interesting Quad-Rye collaboration beer. Be sure to check out this Belgian Style Quad that’s expected to have close to zero bitterness and to walk the line of boozy with an ABV of 10%. You’ll be able to try this at Wanderlust Brewing in Flagstaff and OHSO’s Paradise Valley location when it goes on tap.

  6. Cielo Oscuro – Imperial Stout – Dark Sky Brewing + Ground Control

One of the most buzzed about releases last year, Cielo Oscuro, makes its triumphant return during Arizona Beer Week 2019! Last year many likened it to delicious, boozy Nesquik with some spice/heat to it. Moreover, this year’s batch has the addition of a barrel-aged version! Rumor has it that most cans of this are spoken for already in an online sale, but be sure to hit up Ground Control in Litchfield Park to see if they have any on tap.

  7. Flag7 – Smoked Imperial Porter – All 7 Flagstaff breweries

Imagine the beer equivalent of the Avengers assembling; that’s what’s formed when Wanderlust, Mother Road, Lumberyard, Beaver Street, Flagstaff Brewing, Historic, and Dark Sky all come together once a year to concoct a special beer just for Arizona Beer Week. This year Flag7 happens to be a smoked imperial porter that is sure to impress.

  8. DOPE – India Pale Lager – Beer Research Institute + Dark Sky Brewing

Dank, crushable, and dope – keywords that B.R.I. uses to describe their new IPL collaboration with Dark Sky. Who doesn’t want beer cans that say DOPE on them? Both these breweries go crArizonay with their beers, so be prepared for the dopeness of DOPE.

  9. Persistence Oaked Pale Ale – Women in the Arizona craft beer industry

Remember when I made that Avengers reference for Flag7? Well this is like if the Avengers and Justice League combined forces! Dozens of women from across Arizona came together to make this special beer that will support women’s shelters across the state. It’s awesome to see these women of our state’s craft beer industry team up on this pale ale that will go to such a good cause. And a flame thrower was used in the brewing process. Enough said

  10. Super Duper King Mr. – Triple IPA – The Shop Beer Co + Wandering Tortoise

Be sure to check out this juicy Triple IPA from the brilliant minds of The Shop Beer Co. and The Wandering Tortoise. The duo describes this as melon, sunshine, and modern. You can grab this in cans and on draft during Arizona Beer Week festivities.

There you have it! Those are a handful of the collaboration beers that you need to check out during Arizona Beer Week. Be sure to follow all of your favorite breweries on their social media channels so you can make sure not to miss out on your favorites.
